Video visitation is the wave of the future for correctional facility visiting.

With this innovative new service, inmate visitation privileges will be greatly enhanced.  Immediate family, relatives and friends will be able to visit with inmates from the comfort of their homes.  All they need is a computer with a webcam and Internet access.  The service will also be available on Android and IPhones. The new visitation system will expand available visitation hours, and provide visitation to those unable to visit the facility in person.

The new smartphone hookup called HomeWAV launched in early June. It allows inmates and families to have face-to-face connections without having to schedule visits.

The new system presents tremendous advantages in time savings, as well as contributing to increased safety and security for our facility. It will make inmate visitation simpler and safer for all involved, and will allow jail staff to allocate more time on safety & security of the facility.

The visit works just like a phone call — no jail personnel are involved in connecting the visit. And, unlike other visitation systems, there is no need to involve jail personnel to schedule visits in advance.

There is no cost to the jail or to taxpayers for the equipment or installation. Maintenance is covered, at no charge, for the life of the contract. The system will eliminate movement of inmates from housing areas for visitations.

With the implementation of Inmate Video Visitation, inmates will feel more connected to their homes and families.  This should have a positive impact on morale and behavior.  Family members are spared the expense, inconvenience, and emotional distress of coming into the jail to visit.  Visiting a loved one in an institutional environment, with the inherent security requirements, can be an unpleasant experience for anyone, especially children.

“Feedback from other facilities utilizing the Homewav Inmate Video Visitation have been very positive, and we expect the same results for the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.

The new visitation system gives the jail complete control of visits at all times with live monitoring, recording of all calls, and database access to visitation records.

Studies have shown visiting family members or friends is an important way to maintain connections during incarceration and enhance the inmate’s success both while incarcerated and after release.

The system charges $0.50 per minute for calls made using the video visitation system and all calls are billed in one minute increments, with a required minimum call length for one minute.

The system also offers a video one minute message for inmates and families.

The system will only process prepaid calls and messages. Calls charged to a third party or credit cards are not permitted.

Lobby units will offer payable visitation only from the hours of 5:01 pm to 11:00 pm Monday through Sunday only. These visits will last up to 30 minutes.

There is a 2 hour wait between each visit. This window allows each inmate the opportunity to receive visits from family and friends.
